Outsource or In-House?

5 reasons why contracting your marketing services can make a lot of sense

Reason #1: You need it now.

There are a multitude of reasons you might need marketing help. Perhaps your staff is stretched too thin because of COVID or burnout — or on the upside, you’re growing and need to scale your team. Maybe you have employees who can do the work, but they simply don’t have time anymore, as other responsibilities take priority.

These are all great reasons to consider outsourcing. An outsourced agency (a good one, anyway), will be able to ramp up your marketing much faster than it would take to hire and train a new employee.

Reason #2: Expertise and bandwidth

The good news: Your organization has many wonderful programs, services or information to share. The not-so-good news: You’re not sure which channels, methods, or even times are best to share your message. By outsourcing your marketing function, you could have access to an entire marketing team that specializes in content development, brand development, websites, email marketing, social media management and more. They will know what tools are available, and which will work best for your organization. Marketing professionals come to the table with proven expertise and their own team of support.

Reason #3: It’s cost-effective.

It may surprise you that outsourcing your marketing can be more cost-effective than recruiting and employing a new staff member. While the per-hour rate will likely be higher than the hourly or salaried rate for a new staff member, the amount you budget per month is often enough to cover outsourced services, because they can leverage their experience to do the job in less time. In addition, if you hire a contractor, you are not required under law to offer the same benefits you provide to your actual employees. This saves you on on payroll taxes, vacation time and other paid benefits, like sick time or health insurance.

Reason #4: A fresh perspective

The purpose of marketing is to promote your business. So, as you present your organization to the world, doesn’t it make sense to enlist the help of professionals who do this for a living? Marketing people do this all day, every day, and their insights can help shape an informed, customized strategy that will give you results.

Reason #5: Adaptability and flexibility

Maybe you don’t need a full time marketer. Or maybe, you think you do, but you’re not sure. Or maybe, what you need now is not what you think you will need next year. Expanding or downsizing an in-house marketing team takes time, and it’s expensive. By outsourcing your marketing needs, you can adjust the contract (although a 6-month minimum is standard) as your situation changes.
